Part-Time Retail Assistant


20 hours pw

10am – 2pm, Monday – Friday

Salary; £12,400pa                                                                                

 

Essential Criteria:

To have experience of working with adults with learning disabilities
To have or be willing to complete a DBS check.
Be trained in or be willing to undertake safeguarding training.
To have a good knowledge of basic horticulture, gardening and displaying products.
To work well as part of a team and be a good communicator.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

    • Greet and assist customers, offering guidance on products and services.
    • Respond to customer inquiries, both in person and over the phone, with a friendly and professional attitude.
    • Process transactions accurately and efficiently at the till, including cash handling, card payments, and any returns or exchanges.


Product Knowledge and Recommendations

    • Develop a good understanding of the products sold in the garden centre, including plants, gardening tools, and seasonal items.
    • Advise customers on product choices, uses, and care, ensuring a knowledgeable and helpful customer experience.


Stock Management and Merchandising

    • Assist with stock management, including receiving, pricing, and organising new inventory.
    • Regularly check and restock displays, keeping shelves organised, clean, stock faced up and appealing to customers.
    • Support in creating attractive in-store displays to promote key items and seasonal promotions.
    • Loading and unloading stock including customer vehicles.


Maintaining Clean and Safe Environment

    • Ensure that the shop floor is kept clean, tidy, and safe for customers and staff.
    • Follow all health and safety procedures, reporting any concerns or hazards to the Operations Manager.
    • Participate in regular cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed.


Community and Social Mission Support

    • Engage positively with all visitors, including community groups.
    • Support the garden centre’s community-focused initiatives, demonstrating an understanding of the organisation’s mission to benefit the local community.

Additional Duties

    • Assist with seasonal tasks, events, or other occasional duties as required by the Operations Manager.
    • Be willing to undertake basic training and ongoing training in areas such as product knowledge, health and safety, and customer service.
    • Any such tasks that we deem reasonable to ensure the smooth running of the business.
