Horticultural Assistant


35 hours per week.

Mon- Fri 9am-4pm

Salary: £21,778 pa

 

Essential criteria:

To have experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, to have or be willing to complete a DBS check, be trained in or be willing to undertake safeguarding training.
To have a good knowledge of basic horticulture, gardening and displaying products.
To work well as part of a team and be a good communicator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plant Care and Maintenance:
    • Water, fertilize, prune, and repot plants as required.
    • Monitor plant health and proactively address any pest or disease issues.
    • Assist with the moss land regeneration project under the instruction of the horticultural lead.
    • Assist with planting, arranging, and displaying plants to maintain an attractive and organised garden centre.


  • Customer Service:
    • Greet customers warmly, answering questions and providing advice on plant selection, care, and general gardening practices.
    • Guide customers in selecting the right plants and gardening products to suit their needs.
    • Offer insights into seasonal planting, landscaping, and sustainable gardening techniques.
    • Assist in carrying purchases to vehicles.
    • Till operations and serving customers.


  • Product Stocking and Inventory:
    • Unload, unpack, and display new plant deliveries and gardening supplies.
    • Ensure products are well-stocked, clearly labelled, and attractively presented.
    • Assist in inventory counts and notify management of any shortages or reorder needs.


  • Facility Maintenance:
    • Maintain a clean and organised work environment, including sweeping pathways, cleaning display areas, and disposing of plant debris.
    • Help set up seasonal displays and promotional areas.
    • Follow health and safety guidelines, ensuring safe use of tools and equipment.


  • Community Engagement and Education Support:
    (where applicable)
    • Support community programs, workshops, and events as needed.
    • Work alongside and assist the Service Users who attend our facility with their needs to ensure they can achieve and aspire.
    • Assist in maintaining community garden areas.

General
